FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Mike Mathis Begins Duties as Two Rivers' New Parks and Recreation Director

The City of Two Rivers welcomes Mike Mathis as the new Director of Parks and Recreation. Mike began his work with the City on June 26.

Mike comes to Two Rivers from Michigan, where he worked for Michigan State University as the Director of MSU Tollgate Farm, an extension and outreach facility in Metro Detroit. He had previously worked for the Toledo, Ohio MetroParks system.

City Manager Greg Buckley stated, "Mike fits the bill as a leader and collaborator who will bring a fresh perspective to the parks and recreation department. We are happy to welcome him and his family to Two Rivers."

Mathis earned a Bachelor of Education, Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Master of Science in Ecology all from the University of Toledo. He enjoys running, biking, fishing, and spending time with family. "The tight knit community, quality of life, and proximity to exceptional natural features like Lake Michigan and the Twin Rivers were major personal reasons for making the move from Michigan," Mathis said.

As the Parks and Recreation Director he will oversee the Community House and Senior Center, Neshotah Beach, forestry, cemeteries, parks, trails, and recreation programs and events. The city provides a wide variety of services and venues that contribute to community quality of life as well as Two Rivers' growing tourism economy.

"I am excited to lead a great team within the Parks and Recreation Department. I think there is a lot we can do together to help with future growth for Two Rivers and to support a healthy lifestyle for residents," Mathis stated about the job ahead of him.
