LATEST NEWS

Take a hike.

The cooling weather is no reason to put away your hiking boots. The gem that is Woodland Dunes Nature Center & Preserve is a delightful place to stretch your legs in the brisk air amidst hardwood and conifer forests, wetlands and prairies. And don’t let snow stop you; it’s a perfect spot to snowshoe. You can rent a pair at the Nature Center for $5 if you don’t have your own.

New art in progress

A team of artists are working on an impressive mural depicting the fish who reside in our Lake Michigan waters. The 110-foot piece is being painted on the back wall of Seagull Marina’s maintenance building, which abuts the new South Breakwater Trail.

Do you bake a killer apple pie?

An important part of the upcoming AppleFest is the baking contest. Pies, cakes, cookies–any recipe that contains apples–is eligible. Judges consider presentation, appearance, taste, texture and recipe. Last year’s winner was a caramel pecan apple cheesecake.
