Two TRHS seniors earn Eagle rank

Colman Slattery and Joaquin Guynes recently achieved the highest rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program. The two completed complementary projects over the summer with the construction of the new pergola and picnic benches along Mariners Trail just south of downtown.

Both joined Cub Scouts as first-graders; Slattery was in Pack 3940 and Guynes in Pack 3951. They joined Troop 927 as Boy Scouts in 2014. After meeting all requirements for the Eagle rank, they met before separate boards of review for final approval. Guynes received the designation Aug. 11, and Slattery achieved rank Sept. 22.

Their Eagle projects required coordination with City Manager Greg Buckley and the Parks & Recreation Department, as well as with the Friends of Mariners Trail. The two were invited to speak at a City Council meeting in July, where they were each honored with resolutions recognizing their work on the pergola and bench projects.

The young men are active in extracurricular activities at TRHS, and both are members of the National Honor Society and Two Rivers Police Cadets Unit 9579.
