New Best Beach art

Seattle-based artist Austin Ohm added a vivid bit of beauty to Neshotah Park last week.

Visitors turning on Pierce Street as they head to the beach will immediately note the welcoming art on the wall of a park structure.

Ohm often paints community murals and, back in Seattle, is even leading a summer mural project with high school art interns.

“The aim of my mural work is to create fun, positive, and safe community gathering spaces,” Ohm said. “I hope my art creations help you to smile, relax, slow down, and provide an opportunity for people to connect with each other.”

The 8’x35′ Neshotah design was transferred onto the wall using a digital projector. Ohm then spent about 36 hours filling in the design with spray and latex paints.

His tie to Two Rivers: The Hartford, Wisconsin native went to high school with former TR Parks & Recreation Director Terri Vosters (they also worked together as lifeguards and swim instructors at Hartford’s community pool back in the day). She recently saw one of his murals and contacted him about doing one here.

Upon completion of his work at the Best Beach in Wisconsin, his next stop was Door County, where he created a rainbow dragon mural for Hands On Art Studio in Fish Creek.

Ohm and his wife, Emily Scali, own Gridless Studio, which promotes health and well-being through the creative practices of art, yoga, and permaculture-based landscape design and gardening.
