Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony
The City of Two Rivers, in cooperation with the American Legion Post 165, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 165, and VFW Post 1248, observes Memorial Day.
Activities begin in Central Park East at 8:30 a.m. with a reading of the honor roll and tolling of the bell to honor the 63 members of the U.S. Armed Forces from Two Rivers who were killed in action from the Civil War through Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Following this ceremony, all veterans, active duty personnel and reservists are invited to participate in the day's events; check in with the Honor Guard to join the parade lineup behind the Color Guard and to stand with the Honor Guard at the cemetery ceremonies.
Parade staging is in the City Hall parking lot on Jefferson Street between 17th and 18th streets. (No parking on Jefferson Street.)
At 8:55 a.m., a wreath will be laid at the Soldiers Monument.
The parade begins at 9 a.m. The route begins at Washington Street and 18th Street, north to 22nd Street, west to Forest Avenue, and north to Calvary Pioneers Rest Cemetery at 1801 26th Street. A Ceremony of Remembrance will be held at the platform. Following that program, the combined Honor Guards of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will also present military honors to veterans interred at Forest View/Holy Cross Cemetery (3801 Mishicot Road).
At noon, Vietnam Veterans Chapter 731 will hold a memorial service at Vietnam Veterans Park (35th and Sayer).
In the event of rain, the morning observance will be held in the J.E. Hamilton Community House (1710 West Park Street).
